Student Announcer
Location/Department: WSMC
Description/Duties:
- If assigned a program to host, plan and host high quality classical music programing that fits with best practices and training
- Deal professionally with clients (in person, on air, and over the phone)
- Finish all production assignments promptly and accurately
- Prompt on-air and pre-produced presence is expected
- Read underwriting credits and other information as directed
- Assist with member drives, events, and station marketing as necessary
- Attend all staff meetings
- Work collaboratively with other WSMC staff to assist with station goals
- Assist managers in planning and hosting special live events
- Other tasks as assigned by the student or general manager
Qualifications:
- BEFORE APPLYING, candidates must pass a voice audition (to be scheduled by contacting the station)
- Must have a passion for classical music, even if candidate doesn’t know many composers
- Must read and speak English clearly and articulately
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Must be comfortable speaking with other, one-on-one, in small groups, and up front.
- Must be a Southern student in good standing
- Must be able to communicate effectively through written and spoken word
Hours: Variable, up to 24 hours/week during the school year and 38 hours/week during breaks and the summer.
Pay Rate: Beginning at $7.25
