Midterm Grades

Students are encouraged to check midterm grades as soon as they are posted each semester. A poor grade at midterm is a "wake-up" call to take action. There are a number of things that can be done to improve grades before the end of the semester. Use the following information as a guide to making the best decisions for academic success.
Important Steps to Improve
  • Check your grades in My Access or eClass
  • Stay actively engaged in all your classes.
  • Attend regularly:
    • If you’re in face-to-face classes, attend in person (unless you are ill).
    • For online classes, fully participate—keep your camera on and engage!
  • Complete and submit all assignments, quizzes, and exams on time.
  • Take advantage of tutoring sessions.
  • Meet with your professors if you are struggling.
  • Check your Southern email and eClass announcements for important updates.
  • Monitor your progress toward enrichment credit requirements.

If you’re unsure how to access your grades, log in to your MyAccess account and review your grade report. If your grades aren't visible, contact your professors directly.

Important Deadlines
  • March 27 is the last day to drop a course and receive a "W," which won’t affect your GPA. Make sure to speak with your advisor before making any changes to your schedule.
  • If you're considering dropping below 12 credits, consult with your advisor and student finance before March 27 to avoid receiving an "F."
Dropping a Class
  1. Complete the electronic ADD/DROP form.
  2. The form will be routed for signatures from your professor and advisor.
  3. Submit the form to the Records Office by 4:30 PM on March 27.
Financial Aid Implications
Dropping a course could affect your financial aid. It's important to consult with a Student Finance Counselor to review how this action may impact you. You can reach them by email at studentfinance@southern.edu or by phone at 423.236..535.
International Students
As an international student, you typically cannot drop  below 12 credit hours. Please contact the Records Office, Academic Administration, or your DSO for guidance. Email internationals@southern.edu or call 423.236.2845.
Need Assistance?
  • First-Year Students: Contact the First-Year Experience Office at fye@southern.edu or call 423.236.2575.
  • Sophomores, Juniors, or SeniorsSchedule a meeting with a Student Success Manager or call 423.236.2838.
We urge you to take action now to ensure a successful outcome for this semester.
