Dr. Linda Tym recently served as an academic advisor and contributing writer for Gale’s Contemporary Literary Criticism: Excerpts from Criticism of the Works of Today’s Novelists, Poets, Playwrights, Short Story Writers, Scriptwriters, and other Creative Writers series (Volume 477), which was just published in 2021.

As an advisor for this volume, Tym wrote an introduction and biography on the contemporary Scottish poet and writer John Burnside, reviewed all literary criticism published about his work to date, wrote information addressing the critical reception of his fiction, and selected which essays should be reprinted.

She says she felt honored to be asked to serve as an academic advisor for this volume and publisher, because her article “Perilous Boundaries: Affective Experience in Three Scottish Women Writers’ Short Fiction” from Journal of the Short Story in English had been selected for republication in a previous volume of Gale’s CLC series.

Another article, “History, Slavery, and The Phantom in Alice Thompson’s Pharos,” was published in the Scottish Literary Review (2019). This article was based on a chapter from Tym’s Ph.D. dissertation. The article is available through the Association for Scottish Literary Studies and through Project Muse.
