Education Scholarships
Vanessa Greenleaf Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund for Elementary School Math Teachers
- Must earn minimum 3.0 GPA in substantive math courses required by the teacher education program
- Must earn minimum 3.0 GPA in math pedagogy courses
- Candidate must demonstrate effective methods of teaching math at the elementary level
- Qualified candidate will be invited to apply by the end of April.
- The Teacher Education Council will select/recommend one recipient, based on applications received, to the Financial Appeals Committee

Georgia-Cumberland Conference Passing the Torch Scholarship
Rationale:
The Georgia-Cumberland Conference recognizes that within our churches are quality young people who desire to join the Seventh-day Adventist education ministry of “growing disciples through shared leadership.” This scholarship is intended to assist those who are called and qualified to join in such work.
Requirements:- For junior or senior elementary education majors
- Must be a current church member within the Georgia-Cumberland Conference (GCC)
- Must demonstrate commitment to the ministry of a GCC church
- GCC academy students may be prioritiazed.
- Must possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Recipients will be selected by the Teacher Education Council at Southern and will be verified by the GCC Office of Education
- Must provide a letter of recommendation from the local GCC pastor
- Maximum award of $5000.00 annually
- Juniors who recieve the award may qualify for their Senior year.
Dr. George Platner Education Scholarship
- Available to Graduate and Undergraduate Education students.
- Must have an earned GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must demonstrate financial need based on Southern's student aid policy
- 1-3 students may be awarded $1000 each annually. Award amount will be based on the number of students awarded
- Recipients will be recommended by the dean of the School of Education, Psychology, and Counseling, in consultation with the Teacher Education Council
- Recipients will be verified by the Record's Office, Student Finance Office, and Southern's Financial Appeals Committee
Adventist Teacher-in-Training Scholarship (for Southern Union academy graduates)

Purpose: To provide scholarship funding for qualified students graduating from a Southern Union
Academy who desire to become a teacher in a Seventh-day Adventist school and who
subsequently enroll at an Adventist college or university.
Criteria:
1. Endorsed and recommended by an academy principal/faculty.
2. Stated commitment to become an Adventist school teacher (see application).
3. Completion of the application form with all required attachments.
4. Acceptance and enrollment in an Adventist college/university.
5. Member of a Seventh-day Adventist Church
Award: A Four-Year Scholarship will be awarded each year to four students. *
• Years One & Two = $1,500 per year ($750 per semester) at Oakwood University and Southern Adventist University
(Awards of $1,000 per year may be granted for enrollment in other Adventist
colleges/universities)
• Years Three & Four = $2,500 per year ($1,250 per semester) at Oakwood University and Southern Adventist University
(Awards of $2,000 per year may be granted for enrollment in other Adventist
colleges/universities)
• Awards will be implemented in consecutive years, but an educationally related
deferral (i.e. student missions) may be granted for one year.
Renewal Criteria for each awardee for up to four years.
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00
• Verification of acceptable progress toward completion of requirements for a
Seventh-day Adventist teaching certificate.
• Commitment statement to continue with teacher preparation.
Process:
1. Complete application with attachments submitted to the academy principal.
2. Application and principal’s recommendation are forwarded to the Conference
Superintendent.
3. Each Conference will select the awardee(s) to be recommended to the Southern Union
Superintendents Advisory for prioritizing of awards that is to be finalized by the Southern Union
Board of Education.
4. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the Adventist college/university upon
verification of each semester/quarter enrollment and criteria being met.

Alpha Delta Kappa Tennessee Chi Chapter Scholarship
- A scholarship for a Prospective Teacher.
- Scholarship award of $2000 for a junior or senior education major.
- Candidates will be invited by a faculty to apply by February.
Aspiring Teacher Club Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior in each Southern Adventist University sponsored Aspiring Teachers Club at an academy. The scholarship is regranted over four years if the recipient meets the criteria of the scholarship in the previous academic year.
Any high school senior who has been an active member in a Southern Adventist University sponsored Aspiring Teachers Club is invited to apply for the Aspiring Teachers Club Scholarship to attend Southern Adventist University to pursue a degree that will lead to becoming a teacher. Information for application will be shared with ATC Academy sponsors each year.
Granted Scholarships
When the Aspiring Teachers Club Scholarship is granted, the scholarship will be awarded over four years as long as the criteria in the previous year is met. The scholarship is granted as follows:
Year 1 - 12th Grade/High School Graduation: $1000
- High school senior attends 85% or more of the ATC meetings
- Complete 95% or more of the club activities
- Complete & meet the video presentation requirements (this is the application for the scholarship)
- Create a video that is selected by SAU Education and/or Recruiting personnel.
- $1000 will be awarded in Year 1, provided the student is enrolled in the SAU Introduction to Education course plus 9 hours or more credit hours in an approved major/program.
End of 1st year at SAU as Education major: $1500
- Pass all professional education and major courses with a letter grade of "C" or better
- Have a University GPA of 2.75 +
- Receive a recommendation for a scholarship from the SAU Teacher Education Council (TEC)
- $1500 in year 2 provided that the student is enrolled in 12 hours or more in an approved major/program.
End of 2nd year at SAU as Education major: $2000
- Have an ACT composite score of 21 or better (or an equivalent SAT score)
- Pass all professional education and major courses with a letter grade of "C" or better
- Have an University GPA of 2.75 +
- Receive a recommendation for scholarship from the SAU Teacher Education Council (TEC)
- $2000 in year 3 provided that the student is enrolled 12 hours or more in approved major/program.
End of 3rd year at SAU as Education major: $2500
- Pass all professional education and major courses with a letter grade of "C" or better
- Have an University GPA of 2.75 + • Receive a recommendation for scholarship from the SAU Teacher Education Council (TEC)
- Pass the Praxis II exam*. (*Elementary Education majors, only)
- $2500 in year 4 provided that the student is enrolled 12 hours or more in approved major/program.
*If a scholarship recipient spends time as a member of a student missionary task force, this time will be considered as a gap year. When the student returns to campus, their scholarship will be reinstated.

NAD Graduate Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The North American Division Hispanic Scholarship Fund is designed to assist with financial aid for full-time graduate and post-graduate Hispanic students who are North America Division-based, faithful Seventh-day Adventist Church members in good standing, and whose financial resources are inadequate to enable them to complete their graduate school education.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be a member of the SDA church in good standing.
- Must be Hispanic and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Guam, or Micronesia.
- Must be enrolled as a full time, degree-seeking graduate student.
- Must demonstrate financial need.
